Biggest ever elite field
7:50pm, Mar 28th 2010

Well, I don't know about biggest ever but certainly a bigger field than we've seen in the last four years;
's archive of Pearce/Midland races only goes back to 2006 at the moment.
Seventeen Elites raced this opening round. Typically Pearce races attract 5-8 in this category, so they're clearly doing something right. Maybe it was the lure of the speedtrap, which was unfortunately canned, presumably for technical/manpower reasons. Hopefully we'll see it emerge at Hopton next month?
Beautmont (Marc) put in a stunning time of 2:16 to take the fastest time of the day by a considerable margin; 4.5 seconds clear of 2nd-placed Joe Smith. All the more impressive considering the size of the field, and the quality of the competition. Brendog made an appearance (his first regional race since he hit the big-time with Honda in '07) and finished a solid 3rd, just shy of Joe's time, relegating local boys Berty & Dave Smith out of their usual Pearce podium spots.
In the women's Tracy took the win from visiting French girl Myriam Nicole, with Jess Stone completing the podium aboard one of Tracy's old Treks, her new sponsorship deal still not quite confirmed.
